Britney Spears' Purported Demo Of Lady Gaga's 'Telephone' Leaks

Gaga allegedly wrote song for Spears, but track's authenticity is in doubt.By Gil Kaufman

According to rumors, before recording "Telephone" herself and making its WTF-tastic video with Beyoncé, a pre-fame Lady Gaga wrote the song for Britney Spears. Though Britney never recorded a finished version of the song — as far as we know — a purported demo leaked over the weekend in which Spears takes a swing at the tune.
If Britney Spears Were In The 'Telephone' Video
At press time MTV News had not received responses from either camp about the authenticity of the leaked demo, which first popped up on the site ileaks.com. The track is remarkably similar to the finished version, with Britney singing in the same stuttered, AutoTuned voice as Gaga on the finished product. At points during the chorus, Britney's multi-tracked vocals take on a high, Madonna-esque tone.
The track has spare instrumentation, with gently plucked strings in the intro that are overtaken by the same driving beat and swirling synths as the finished recording in Gaga's The Fame Monster. The busy dial tones and the "not in service" message at the end are also in place, but in general, the demo lacks the punch of Gaga's version.
Though Spears has not weighed in on the controversy, one of the singer's fan sites, World of Britney, has thrown water on the alleged demo rumors. "There was almost no AutoTune in the actual song," World of Britney tweeted on Sunday, with several adamant follow-ups. "It was raw vocals and that isn't the song. Those of you who have ears can hear it's not B."
Do you think it's Britney on the demo? How does it compare to the finished Gaga product? Share your theories and reviews in the comments below.

BULLSEYE 7/16: Forecast for ?Inception,? ?Other Guys,? ?Step Up 3D,? more

In terms of wide openers, Christopher Nolan has the weekend pretty much to himself for his mind-bending thriller "Inception," which opens Friday. Disney's "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" bowed early Wednesday night to an estimated $3.9 million, but it won't provide much competition for the "Dark Knight" director, Leo and Warner Bros.

M.I.A. Declares She 'Loves' Justin Bieber

New love songs like 'It Takes a Muscle' may have inspired her soft spot for the Biebs ... or not. By James Montgomery

M.I.A.

Photo: MTV News

The lead-up to M.I.A.'s /\/\/\Y/\ album has basically been one long stream of bad PR, scurrilous spats and, uh, videos that depict things like the execution of redheads. So it may surprise you to learn that there's actually a pair of songs on the record that are actually, well, sort of nice.

"It Takes a Muscle" and "Lovalot" seem to be — on the surface, at least — about the trials and tribulations of the heart. So it seems that, deep down (and despite all the bluster), M.I.A. is actually a really sweet person. So in keeping with that spirit, we decided to ask her if there's anything else she really, truly loves.
"M.I.A. loves ... Justin Bieber?" she laughed.
Of course, we're not entirely sure we believe her. You'll remember, of course, that she once said that Bieber's videos were "more offensive" than her own aforementioned "Born Free" clip, and while she's since clarified her stance on Biebs, saying she meant it as "a joke," you still probably wouldn't peg her one who would succumb to Bieber Fever.
But then again, given her new album, we suppose anything is possible. Because /\/\/\Y/\ isn't just a new set of tunes, it's a new chapter for M.I.A. She's working with an entirely new team of producers, diving deeper into the sonic sample bin than ever before, and, most notably, she's actually singing this time around. Or at least that's what people are saying.
"It's sort of like [producer] Blaqstarr kind of encouraging me and making me comfortable to sing," she said. "And I think on my first album — I think, or I thought — that [songs like] 'Amazon' was me singing, and 'Paper Planes' was me singing, but I guess everyone seems to think I'm singing more on this album. I'm just singing louder."
Is M.I.A. really a Justin Bieber fan at heart? Tell us what you think in the comments!

Michael Cera Goes Incognito At Comic-Con ... In A Gorilla Mask

'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World' star was able to mingle with comic book fans at his own movie's event.By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

SAN DIEGO -- Comic-Con attendees who went through the "Scott Pilgrim" Experience for a T-shirt: Take a closer look at your pictures. Did you go up to a tall, skinny man wearing a gorilla mask and ask for a photo? If so, you actually took a picture with the star of "Scott Pilgrim," Michael Cera.

While chatting with Josh Horowitz during the MTV News and MySpace live stream Friday (July 23), Horowitz noticed that Cera was wearing an official Comic-Con shirt.
"As some actors do go on the floor with a mask on, Michael put a mask on and lined up for his own 'Scott Pilgrim' Experience in disguise," director Edgar Wright revealed, adding that Cera designed his own shirt.
His mask was a gorilla, and a "fierce-looking one" at that. Apparently other people in line thought the mask looked cool, because Cera said people kept coming up to him and asking for pictures while he was waiting on the street.
There's a chance fans might have had some inkling that it was Cera under the mask (or if not, they just got really lucky), but he did his best to throw them off his scent.
"My body language got really weird, because I'd picture whoever this guy is wearing this mask. When people would come up to me and start asking for pictures, I'd go like this," Cera said, leaning off to the side awkwardly. "I had a really weird voice under there too. It was kind of creeping people out, I think."

Kristen Stewart Is 'Fantastic,' 'On The Road' Co-Star Garrett Hedlund Says

'The family that we're surrounded by is wonderful and unbelievable,' he tells MTV News at Comic-Con.By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

SAN DIEGO — Garrett Hedlund is starring in one of the most talked-about movies of Comic-Con, but it's another of his upcoming projects that is generating a lot of buzz.

During MTV News and MySpace's live stream Friday (July 23) to promote "Tron Legacy," MTV's Josh Horowitz asked Hedlund about "On the Road," which also stars "Twilight" leading lady Kristen Stewart.
"I've been on ['On the Road'] since the fall of '07, and it's sort of been on my mind since then," Hedlund said. "When we jump onto projects like this, we've sort of got to tie that kite to a post and hope that it's still flying as high as it was when you come back to it. Luckily, now with coming off 'Tron' and going into that, we've got to take that kite off."
The film has been in pre-production up in Montreal, as the cast and crew get ready to start shooting. Hedlund said right now the cast is going through "boot camp" and "intensive research with biographers."
Even though they won't start shooting until August, Hedlund had nothing but nice things to say about Stewart. "She's got it all there. She's where she needs to be. She's fantastic," he gushed. He also said Sam Riley, who plays Jack Kerouac in the film, is "incredibly devoted and a hard worker and also a fantastic actor.
"We've had wonderful times up there in Montreal. Just hoping to make a wonderful film that can fulfill everyone's expectation of what this can actually be," Hedlund said. "The family that we're surrounded by is wonderful and unbelievable and, for me, I'm kind of on cloud nine."
Stewart also had nothing but kind words for Hedlund when we caught up with her at an "Eclipse" screening last month. "I've met him a bunch of times, and I've hung out with him twice," she said of her co-star. "He's a great guy. ... He's written crazy stuff for it. He's super into it. Not to sound ... I don't know how to put it. He's, like, so in character, and he's driving to Montreal. He's awesome. I'm really, really excited."

Usher Gets Steamy In 'There Goes My Baby' Video

R&B heartthrob goes shirtless in sexy new clip released online Tuesday.By Jayson Rodriguez

Usher's "There Goes My Baby"

Photo: LaFace/ Jive

Usher has taken on critics who say he's lost his swagger. And with a new video for his single "There Goes My Baby," the singer continues to push back at detractors who dare to suggest he's slipped.
His last single, the Will.I.Am-produced "OMG," is still riding high on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, currently resting comfortably in the #3 slot.
And now, he's pushing his next number with a video for the slow-burning ballad "There Goes My Baby." Released on Tuesday (July 13), the clip features Usher and his leading lady trading sweaty moves under a desert sun.
In the opening scene, Usher has his back to the camera as the sun rises just over his right shoulder. The R&B crooner, sporting a black tank top and dark jeans, slowly pulls his love interest closer toward him in the next scene, and then ditches his tee as he sings to her.
"There goes my baby," he sings on the chorus. "Loving everything you do/ Ooh girl, look at you." As the song's climax begins, the pair unite once again and exchange kisses as the sun fades.
"There Goes My Baby" is the latest from Usher's Raymond v. Raymond, which the singer recently announced would be made available in two separate extended editions next month. Versus will feature eight new songs, including "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love," a Pitbull-assisted number that premiered on the singer's website earlier this month. Usher will also release Raymond v. Raymond (The Deluxe Edition). That edition of the album will include tracks from Versus, as well as material from the original version of Raymond v. Raymond that had initially leaked online prior to his album's official release and wasn't included on the retail set.

Beyonce's 'Why Don't You Love Me' Almost Didn't Happen, Bama Boyz Say

'It was the last one we expected her to pick,' song's producers reveal.By Steven Roberts

Beyoncé

Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic

If you've listened to Beyoncé's "Why Don't You Love Me" and inexplicably felt like you were a spy in the middle of an international conspiracy, then don't feel like you're weird. When producers the Bama Boyz, created the song, that's exactly how they felt.

The Grammy-nominated production trio of Eddie Smith, Jesse J. Rankins and Jonathan Wells are signed to Mathew Knowles' (a.k.a. Beyoncé's father) Music World Entertainment, and have worked with B for some time. In fact, the song's inspiration came from the time they spent in London at the end of her B-Day Tour.
"After the tour left, we stayed over in the UK, because we fell in love with it. It was a big thing for us, being out there, and we watch a lot of movies, so we all felt like Jason Bourne, to be quite honest with you," Rankins said. "We felt like James Bond or something. We were running around on like — this is kind of embarrassing — pretend missions in our head and we felt like we needed a theme song for it."
He said they started working on the song that would become "Why Don't You Love Me" in London, and completed it once they were back Stateside. They said that the song's structure was unusual, but luckily it ended up in the right person's hands.
"What happen was [B's sister] Solange called us and was like, 'Hey, I'm going to write a couple of records for my sister. Send me some tracks!' We had a lot of bangers that felt more like Beyoncé, but we actually put that one last on the CD because we figured 'This is not Beyoncé,' but we knew Solange would like it," Rankins said. "So we stuck that one there — but we battled with even putting it on there, because it was the last one we expected her to pick. So Solange sent it back with a song written to it, and it was the 'Why Don't You Love Me' lyrics. The song was hot!"
The Bama Boyz met in junior high and high school and linked back up in college at Alabama A&M University, where they threw parties as DJs. They eventually landed internships at Sony Music before hooking up with Mathew Knowles.
Despite their name, the group's sound doesn't necessarily scream Alabama. Their EP, Socially Awkward, is filled with music that can't readily be classified as electro, R&B or hip-hop.
"We actually like the fact that our name is the Bamaz — people say, 'Ah, they're going to sound like this.' But then we you hear [us], you're like 'What? Are they really from Alabama?' It's just like a gumbo of lots of different genres and styles."

'Twilight' And 'Priest' Only Have Vampires In Common, Cam Gigandet Says

'It's not like a 'vampire film'; there's so much more to it,' 'Priest' co-star Karl Urban tells MTV News at Comic-Con.By Kara Warner

Photo: MTV News

SAN DIEGO — Ever since he lit up the screen as delightfully devious "Twilight" villain James, Cam Gigandet's career has been on the rise. When MTV News caught up with him during Comic-Con on Friday (July 23), we asked about his character in the upcoming "Priest" — which is based on the celebrated comic book series — and, since the film coincidentally involves vampires, if he had any hesitation in taking on the part.

"I play Sheriff Hicks," he said. "I'm the sheriff of a small town where my girlfriend gets kidnapped by this pack of vampires, so I enlist Paul Bettany's, Priest's, help, and we are on the road to find and rescue her."
Gigandet said that, although there are vampires involved in the movie, fans expecting the romantic "Twilight"-style vamps will be in for a shock.
"It's very, very different from 'Twilight,' " he said. "The similarities kind of end with what they're called, which is vampires."
Gigandet said the world of "Priest," directed by Scott Charles Stewart, is also entirely different. "The world Scott created is kind of unlike any other," he said. "Sometimes it was hard to visualize what he had in his mind, but I've seen clips, and its unbelievable. ... Just to work with all of these people, they're such an amazing cast. I didn't have any doubts [about taking on another vampire-related role]."
Gigandet's co-star, "Star Trek" star Karl Urban, said he's never seen a movie like this. "This is a post-apocalyptic vampire western," he said. "The emphasis isn't heavily on the fact — it's not like a 'vampire film'; there's so much more to it."
As far as what "Twilight" fans can expect to see, and fans of the original comic book, Gigandet and his co-stars said there is something for everyone in the film, because it is emotional and character-driven.
"[There are] so many different levels, and so many people are doing things that sacrifice for all sorts of love," Gigandet said. "It's not just one set love story. There are so many different levels going on."
"Priest" is set to open in May 2011.

Britney Spears To Design Clothing For Candie's

Line features skinny jeans, black skirts, motorcycle jackets.By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears

Photo: Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic

Britney Spears has already appeared in ads for the Candie's for Kohl's campaign, dancing around in cute little dresses and skimpy bikinis. And now the star is adding clothing designer to her résumé by co-designing her own line of clothing and accessories for Candie's. The line will hit Kohl's stores starting on July 1 and will be available for a limited time. It features skinny jeans, casual striped sweaters, little black skirts and motorcycle jackets.
In an interview with InStyle.com, Spears explains how she came up with the ideas for the line. "First, I met with the Candie's designers and told them what my favorite styles are. Then, we sketched the items together," she explained. "I loved it when I saw the samples for the first time."
So which piece in the collection does Spears like best? "I love the black trench coat. You can wear it over your outfit or as a dress. There's also an amazing studded skirt that's perfect for going out," she said, adding that studs are a big part of her line.
"I used a lot of studs and lace, because I wanted to make the clothes cool and edgy yet girly. I also love jeans, so I had to make sure there were some great pairs in the collection. And I love jewelry so there are a lot of fun pieces," she continued. "There are great necklaces and big earrings."
The line mimics the clothes that the singer loves to wear in her real life. "My personal style is a mix of comfortable and flirty," she said. "I love cute little dresses but I also love comfy sweaters and jeans."
What do you think of Spears' clothes? Tell us in the comments!

Lady Gaga: From Pop Deity To Human Being, One Reality Show At A Time

Bigger Than the Sound wonders: Is Gaga the most everyman pop star around?By James Montgomery

Lady Gaga

Photo: Gabriel Bouys/ Getty Images

By now, you are probably aware that Lady Gaga is an unstoppable moneymaking machine, an insatiable studio junkie, a high-ranking Polaroid executive, an honorary Hair Wars champion, a burgeoning fashion icon, the next Madonna, more popular than Barack Obama and quite possibly a member of the Illuminati.
But, chances are, you didn't know that she's also a big fan of A&E's "Intervention."
Or maybe you did. After all, she tweeted about it Tuesday, calling the show "informational, heartbreaking and inspiring." And while the idea of Gaga sitting in a hotel room, hair done up in Diet Coke can curlers, cigarette sunglasses still smoldering on the bedside table, watching Allison huff duster (and subsequently walk on sunshine) is rather amazing, it's also important too. Because it's just another step in the latest chapter of her career: her continued transformation from otherworldly pop deity into an actual human being.
And perhaps I am reading entirely too much into one simple tweet about a phenomenally addictive reality show (about addiction), but now — more than at any point in her time in the spotlight — Gaga seems determined to be one of us. She chugs beer at baseball games (albeit while wearing a leather jacket and a bikini), crushes BBQ at Boston dive bars and spends her off-days in New York cooking for her dad, drinking and watching episodes of "Cops" (something she made a point of mentioning onstage at her tour kickoff in Montreal). She spoke openly and frankly about her ex-boyfriend in an interview with Rolling Stone, and her newest song — a piano ballad called "You and I" — seems to be very much about reconciling with him, in perhaps the most un-Gaga setting imaginable: a dark and dirty bar. (It's also worth noting that the songs sounds a whole lot like a Billy Joel B-side, and who's more everyman than the Piano Man?)
At this point, I don't know what she could possibly do for an encore — maybe start Tivo-ing "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" or take on a disastrous adjustable-rate mortgage? — but the fact remains that right now, despite all her trappings, Gaga is probably the most openly human pop superstar on the planet (or at least the most open). Can you imagine any of her contemporaries — the Beyoncés and Britneys and Madonnas of the galaxy — giving the finger to photographers at a Mets game or slaving away in the kitchen? Of course not. Would any of them go to such great lengths to shed the veil of celebrity and seem so downright normal? Not in a million years. Lady Gaga has basically graduated to a whole new level now, one that's either so far above — or so far below — anything anyone else has ever attempted that it seems positively groundbreaking: She is the cursing, drinking, red-meat-devouring deity. She is, in a sense, just like you or I.
But is any of it intentional? I'm not really sure. When I interviewed Gaga last year in San Diego, I asked her if she were "in character" all the time or if there were moments when she was just, you know, normal (i.e. When she went to the grocery store, did she wear those Alexander McQueen armadillo heels?). She responded, quite matter-of-factly, that Lady Gaga wasn't a character; it was who she was, and that, if there was any kind of concept behind her career, it was — as she put it — to "create an atmosphere for my fans, where they don't leave loving me, they leave loving themselves."
So even back then, the template appeared to be in place. Gaga is not untouchable, she is not perfect — she's not supposed to be. And while some might find the notion of their pop royalty slumming it down here with the rest of us rather uncouth, I for one find it rather admirable. It's not careerist or calculated; it's just Gaga being Gaga. And, I suspect, it's just one of the many reasons her "little monsters" love her so.
And, if she wants to continue down her current path, might I suggest "Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch," currently airing on VH1? It's waaay everyman.
Do you think Gaga is relatable or untouchable? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Usher To Release Versus LP In August

An extension of Raymond v. Raymond, album features eight new songs.By Mawuse Ziegbe

R&B megastar Usher will release an extension of his latest hit album, Raymond v. Raymond, on August 24. The album, entitled Versus, features eight new songs, including the Pitbull collaboration "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love," which recently premiered on the singer's website. In addition to Versus, Usher will also put out Raymond v. Raymond (The Deluxe Edition) on the same day. The deluxe edition of the crooner's chart-topping album will include all the tracks from Versus and the original version of Raymond v. Raymond.
The singer's latest album took the top spot on the Billboard albums chart when it debuted earlier this year, moving more than 300,000 copies during its first week of release. Before Raymond dropped, the hit-making heartthrob told MTV News that the album held special significance for him.
"This album means so much to my career," Usher said. "I think this is the one time where I'm able to put it all in, emotionally and the good times — super-freaky and then also super-emotional. Raymond v. Raymond, artistically, is one of my greatest pieces of work, not only just because of the content but also the people whom I got involved in it: T.I., Will.I.Am, Puff, Nicki Minaj."
Usher has also proven he has an eye for talent with the breakout success of teen protégé Justin Bieber. Drawing from his history of cranking out R&B and pop smashes, Usher recognized early on that the Beeb's talent extends beyond his pipes.
"I felt like his voice was incredible. I feel he was very charismatic, and that's what it takes to be able to handle what this is," Usher told MTV News. "It's the ability to turn it on and understand, but it was a very real ability. It was actually just him."

Stone Temple Pilots Reunited In Hopes Of Opening For Led Zeppelin, Bassist Says

'If time allows, there will definitely be new music,' Robert DeLeo adds of STP's future.By Chris Harris

Stone Temple Pilots' Robert DeLeo and Scott Weiland

Photo: Charley Gallay/ Getty Images

There are a number of reasons why Stone Temple Pilots decided to reunite after nearly five years apart — some are obvious, and others, not so much.
Of course, the financial windfall of reviving the grunge stalwarts for an extensive U.S. tour was too good to pass up, and bassist Robert DeLeo readily admits as much. And then there are the fans, the ones who had been with STP since the very beginning as well as those who discovered the band only after it first split back in 2003 and who, woefully, have yet to catch the Pilots live.
On a more personal level, though, Stone Temple Pilots' resurrection was purely selfish, and very much an anticipatory (not to mention optimistic) move on the band's part: If, after the months and months of rumors and denials, there ever is a full-on Led Zeppelin reunion tour, STP wanted to be ready to offer their services as an opening act.
"Believe me, that was one of the reasons," laughed DeLeo. "We thought, 'We should get together now, in case Zeppelin does tour.' I'm serious, man. That would be one hell of a bill: STP and Led Zeppelin. I mean, we could play a doghouse, out in the middle of the ocean, and if I got to play with Zeppelin, that would be a highlight of my life."
Yes, DeLeo — and the rest of the band — had several reservations about raising STP from the dead — a feat DeLeo jokingly referred to as "Mission Impossible." For the band's members, the idea of regrouping was terrifying at first, but with time, the boys settled their differences and tried to think positive.
"For me, it was about putting down some of the things that I was used to getting bitten by," explained the bassist — who, with guitar-playing brother Dean DeLeo, has been collaborating with Peter Frampton on material for his next LP. "After you get bitten, it's hard to go back. I wanted to go into this with an open frame of mind and a positive attitude and just have fun with it. We should have fun with it, which God knows we didn't always have with our career when we were younger. If that's all I can say, and that's what I can get out of this reunion, great.
"I think I speak for all of us when I say there's a lot of unfinished business that we didn't get around to the first go," he continued. "Enough time has gone by, and it feels really good to be back. I don't really want to put too much thought into how it feels — I'm just kind of going with it and keeping a good positive attitude about it. I just needed to get over the things that we all needed to get over, and that's been working so far. If everyone shows up and does this thing, I think it's going to be really amazing."
DeLeo claims that during recent rehearsals, STP were "sounding as good as ever," and he credits sobriety as part of the reason the band's in tip-top shape.
"My brother's going on four years of sobriety," he said. "We have a lot more clarity in the band now, and I think with clarity comes appreciation. I saw that the other night, when we played [a secret gig in Los Angeles]. I saw it in my eyes, and in the eyes of the rest of the band. There's a lot more rock in this band now."
As for an STP record, DeLeo is not 100 percent sure that's going to happen. The goal for STP over the next few weeks, he said, is to reacquaint themselves with their songbook and prepare for their return to the road. Once the band is back in that mindset, the bassist said new STP material is very possible.
"I've always got stuff written, and there's always a long list of songs that are always there — it's a matter of timing," DeLeo said. "If time allows, there will definitely be new music. I think it would be silly not to release new music. I'd like to believe we still have a writing relationship, but the first step is getting reacquainted with what we know."
While STP were on hiatus, frontman Scott Weiland teamed up with Velvet Revolver, and the DeLeo brothers joined forces with Filter's Richard Patrick for Army of Anyone — who are now on hiatus after releasing a poorly received self-titled LP. Does DeLeo foresee an AOA reunion somewhere down the line?
"You never know," he said. "It's just like STP — I didn't know if I was going to return. Whether we get back together and do anything, I think we made a great record, bottom line. That's all that matters to me. If we make another one, I want to make sure it's great, and that applies to STP and anything I do. But I was pretty heartbroken over [the feeble response to AOA's album]."

Eminem Surprises E3 Crowd With Guests Travis Barker, Rihanna

Rapper headlined Activision concert that included Usher, Will.I.Am, Jane's Addiction and others.By Matt Elias

Eminem performs at E3 on Monday

Photo: Chris Weeks/ Getty Images

LOS ANGELES — Eminem performed an electrifying set at Activision's E3 party on Monday night, crushing any doubts that he is truly back in the game after his long hiatus. The Detroit MC headlined a massive bill that included Usher, Will.I.Am, N.E.R.D., Jane's Addiction, Chris Cornell, David Guetta, Deadmau5 and DJ Z-Trip.
Em's set kicked off with his first surprise of the night at the Staples Center, with Travis Barker jumping behind the drums for an acrobatic drum solo. Em joined him moments later (flanked by D12's Denaun Porter), taking the stage just before midnight. He was decked out in a black jacket, black jeans and a silver crucifix hanging around his neck.
With Em, Barker, Porter and a live band all onstage, the crowd was up on its feet right from the get-go. The six-song set began with "Won't Back Down," off of Recovery, which Em just announced would be released on June 21, a day earlier than originally planned. From that moment, there was an energy in the arena that could be felt from the floor all the way up to the luxury suites.
Eminem followed with a couple of his recent features — one from B.o.B's "Airplanes (Part II)" and the other from Drake's "Forever." As Drake's chorus blared, Eminem marched down the stage's catwalk, chanting "Bounce, bounce, bounce." He was clearly on his game, bobbing and weaving while he delivered his verses. All of this was punctuated by Barker's thumping drumbeats, which made it feel more rock show than rap show.
After three songs, Eminem addressed his adoring crowd, shouting, "Los Angeles! What the f--- is up? Make some motherf---ing noise!" As if he had to ask, Staples Center erupted in ovation.
Em then dedicated his next song, "Not Afraid," to all of the fans that have stuck by his side over the years. His live band was joined by a full orchestra on both sides of the stage. If that wasn't enough, later in the song, Eminem was joined by an entire gospel choir that numbered in the dozens.
Then Eminem sprung his next surprise. "Before I get into this next song," he said, "I wanna bring out a very special guest." After a few moments, Barbadian beauty Rihanna appeared onstage with a bright crop of candy-apple-red hair. The duo got right into "Love the Way You Lie" — another new song off the upcoming Recovery. Em and Ri had great chemistry onstage, taking turns sauntering down the catwalk and passing glances at each other throughout the performance.
As the song ended, the show seemed to be over. Eminem thanked the crowd and exited the stage. His band stayed on, however, and slowly started playing the opening notes of "Lose Yourself." As the song built, Eminem stormed back onto the stage and the crowd (as if they could get any louder) exploded. As he ripped through the song, Porter served as the hype-man, and excitement continued to build until the end, when a shower of gold confetti rained down on the audience.

Eminem, Usher, Alicia Keys and T-Pain have been added to the performance lineup of the BET Awards '10, going down on June 27 in Los Angeles. The hitmakers will join a star-studded bill that includes previously announced performers Kanye West, Drake, T.I., Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross and Ludacris.
A BET rep also confirmed that a Michael Jackson tribute is slated for this year's show, hosted by rapper/actor Queen Latifah. The 2009 event became an impromptu MJ homage after the icon died just days before the awards show aired. Host Jamie Foxx memorably Moonwalked and spoofed Jackson's "Beat It," and stars like Ne-Yo, Ciara and Keri Hilson paid homage to the icon during their performances.
Rolling Stone reported on Thursday (June 17) that BET insiders confirmed viewers can expect a performance of the monster collaboration "All I Do Is Win," featuring DJ Khaled, T-Pain, Ludacris and Rick Ross. The magazine also teased that the "All I Do Is Win" collabo is set to feature a special guest.
Jay-Z leads this year's BET Awards nominations with five nods, including Best Male Hip-Hop Artist and Video of the Year for both "Empire State of Mind" and "Run This Town" off his hit The Blueprint 3. Beyoncé, Alicia Keys and Drake also picked up multiple noms, with Mrs. Carter and the soon-to-be Mrs. Swizz Beatz both vying for the Best Female R&B Artist trophy and Drake competing with Hov for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist. Teen sensation Justin Bieber also received a nod for Best New Artist.
Soul singer John Legend will be honored with the Humanitarian Award for his philanthropic work while the legendary Prince will also be celebrated: The Purple One will receive the ceremony's Lifetime Achievement Award. This year's show, to be broadcast live from the Shrine Auditorium in L.A., will mark the 10th anniversary of the BET Awards.

Michael Jackson's Brother Jermaine Celebrates King Of Pop On 'Larry King'

The Jackson family still hasn't 'come to terms' with MJ's death a year later, Jermaine says.By Eric Ditzian

Jermaine Jackson on "Larry King Live"

Photo: CNN

On June 25, 2009, Michael Jackson's family and friends gathered at Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale, California, to lay the King of Pop to rest in the Grand Mausoleum. Almost one year later, shortly before the actual anniversary of his death, MJ's brother Jermaine returned to the site to tape an interview with Larry King.

"It's been tough," Jermaine told the talk-show host. "It went so fast. We've been just putting the pieces together and the family's been having a lot of meetings and we're just trying to hold on. We haven't come to terms. It's something we're learning to live with. We will never accept it."
Speaking softly and quietly, Jackson said the inside of the mausoleum is dark and cold. "To walk this corridor, and all you hear is your footsteps. Michael shouldn't be here. I always felt that," he said, adding that MJ should have been buried at his Neverland Ranch estate.
A year later, Jackson said Michael's three children, Prince, Paris and Blanket, are enjoying as normal a life as possible. They love movies, Jermaine said, though he is not sure if they've seen "This Is It," the documentary about Michael's final months as he prepared for what were to be his comeback shows in London. Jermaine also revealed that they do not visit their father's gravesite at Forest Lawn.
Each of the family members, Jackson said, continues to grieve in their own ways. And they continue to raise questions about the circumstances surrounding MJ's death. Jermaine acknowledged that numerous interventions had been made concerning Michael's use of various prescription medications but denied any suggestion that his brother did not want to live. Rather, Jermaine said the family believes Michael was murdered and that Dr. Conrad Murray, the singer's personal physician who was charged with involuntary manslaughter as a result of MJ's propofol overdose, is not the sole person responsible for the death.
"All of us feel that he's the fall guy," Jermaine said. "It's higher up than just the doctor.
"He did say on numerous occasions, at times to my mother, that he felt that he was being threatened, someone was trying to kill him," Jermaine added about his brother.
While the Jackson family awaits the start of Murray's trial, which they plan to attend, they lament the way the pop singer has been treated by the media, the public and prosecutors in the years before his death.
"If you listen to the content of his lyrics and his music, that's what he is, that's what he wrote from his heart, from his soul," Jackson said. "And it's sad, because now people realize what kind of person he was all along. But he's not here to see that. He got a bum rap because he was so misunderstand. He was trying to take the world on his shoulders and to bring an awareness to the world of what we need to do as people."

Nicki Minaj's 'Your Love' Video -- Watch It Here!

The Young Money MC dons geisha gear and fights to the death, à la female assassins in 'Kill Bill' in new clip.By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Kelly Marino

Maybe Nicki Minaj — whose alter ego is named Roman Zolanski — should consider yet another nickname: Onika Thurman perhaps? Because the theatrical MC does her best impersonation of Uma Thurman's Bride from in "Kill Bill" in her new "Your Love" video, which premiered Wednesday (July 21) on MTV.
"We wanted to have geisha themes, samurai themes, stuff like that," Minaj told MTV News from the Los Angeles set. "I wanted to tell a love story. It's just kinda liking a guy, where he's not really for you to like — the forbidden fruit — and me and this other girl happen to like him and we go to war."

In the clip, actor Michael Jai White serves as the Young Money MC's sensei and love interest. Decked out in geisha gear, Nicki raps while White teaches a martial arts class. She's soon swooning over her instructor.
Another student, however, also has feelings for the teacher and observes Nicki's smitten ways. The two women exchange words that escalate into all-out battle, à la the Bride and Lucy Liu's Cottonmouth character, leaving one gasping for life as White discovers the body.
The "Your Love" clip was directed by Lil X and follows the Queens rapper's first visual, 'Massive Attack," which was helmed by Hype Williams. The song is also the second single from Minaj's yet-untitled debut, slated to arrive November 23. (The rapper tweeted the date to her followers earlier this month.)
Currently, Nicki Minaj is also enjoying top-five status as a finalist vying for MTV's "Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010." She's earned plenty of fans with her over-the-top delivery and facial ticks during her rhymes.
"Nicki Minaj runs hip-hop," M.I.A. said recently. "She works hard, and that's what it is. She's focused, and that's good. She's got really good work ethic."

Janet Jackson And Family Visit Michael's Forest Lawn Grave

As fans lined up outside Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale, California, on the one-year anniversary of Michael Jackson's death, his family gathered inside to pay their respects to the fallen pop star.
Janet Jackson, as well as Randy, Tito and Jermaine, arrived at the cemetery around 11 a.m. PT on Friday (June 25), according to Us Weekly. Janet wore a black trench coat and black skirt as she was escorted in by her brothers. The family entered the cemetery through a back entrance and made their way to the Great Mausoleum, where Michael was laid to rest.
The mausoleum's architectural design was inspired by the Campo Santo in Italy, an elaborate cemetery constructed in the 13th century and used as a burial ground for Italian elites for hundreds of years. The building was not open to fans on the anniversary of Jackson's death.
Michael's children, Prince, Paris and Blanket, did not accompany the other Jackson family members. According to Us, the children were last seen in Hawaii on Thursday with Michael's mother, Katherine, who is their legal guardian.
"Sorry Big Bro, for not getting ur children there on the anniversary of ur last day. I tried," Randy wrote on his Twitter account.
Katherine was on hand Friday in Gary, Indiana, Michael's hometown, to unveil a marble memorial and hold what was described as a cell phone vigil outside his childhood home. "I am not in support of the Gary event/trip or whatever it is. I'm tired but I promise to continue this discussion first thing in the morn," Randy tweeted.
MTV will be remembering the life and music of Michael Jackson all weekend. Don't miss the one-hour special "Michael Jackson's Influence on Music," airing tonight at 6:30 p.m. on MTV.

Taylor Lautner Should Play Teen Wolverine, Hugh Jackman Says

But 'can he grow mutton chops?' the 'X-Men' star wonders about the typically hairless 'Eclipse' star.By Mawuse Ziegbe

Taylor Lautner already plays one of the most recognizable onscreen characters as werewolf Jacob Black in the teen hysteria-inducing "Twilight" flicks. But another star thinks Lautner should put his ripped physique to good use in another role. "Wolverine" star Hugh Jackman says Lautner could convincingly don a pair of claws as a teen Wolverine in next year's "X-Men: First Class."
"My only question is: Can he grow mutton chops?" Jackman wondered to Eonline.com's Marc Malkin. But then, remembering the droves of girls around the world enamored with the considerably less hirsute Jacob, Jackman reconsidered the idea of a woolly Lautner.
"Actually, I think people would probably prefer him as a hairless Wolverine than a rather hairy-chested version. Certainly about a billion young girls would," Jackman observed.
Although he's got a co-sign from the star of the "Wolverine" franchise, Lautner's not pressed for work. The young heartthrob has some other flicks lined up, including the thriller "Abduction," which recently started production and stars Lautner as a teen who gets entangled in a web of espionage after seeking out his birth parents. And while he might not be shredding foes as Wolverine anytime soon, the "Twilight" hunk is also slated for a superhero flick in the title role of the upcoming "Stretch Armstrong."
Lautner hasn't mentioned sprouting heaps of hair for a film, but he has expressed his willingness to transform physically, even abandoning his muscular bod, for the right part.
"If it was for a role that I was passionate about, I would definitely do that," Lautner told MTV News last month. "I want to challenge myself to everything," he added, noting that he's open to sinking his teeth into a range of flicks. "I've got a really cool action thriller [in 'Abduction'] and then an awesome superhero movie [in 'Stretch Armstrong'], but I want to find a great drama script."
Should Taylor consider a part in the next "X-Men" flick? Tell us what you think in the comments!

Michael Jackson's Estate: What's Coming Next?

Unreleased songs, Cirque du Soleil shows, a video game and much more are on the roster.By Gil Kaufman

Michael Jackson

Like Elvis, Bob Marley and Tupac Shakur, in death, Michael Jackson's popularity has only grown stronger. The singer, who died at age 50 on June 25, 2009, while gearing up for a 50-concert comeback attempt, has generated nearly $1 billion in revenue for his cash-strapped estate since his death. And with a number of projects in the works, it's likely that cash registers will keep ringing for years to come.

Part of the reason the managers of Jackson's estate moved so quickly to cut a number of lucrative deals in the months after the singer's death is because of a $500 million mountain of debt they were facing. According to CNBC, they chipped away at that by launching a four-pronged plan that included generating cash to pay bills, developing long-term projects for regular cash flow, restructuring Jackson's massive debt, and then working to restore the pop star's image, complicated and tarnished by decades of bizarre behavior and two allegations of improper sexual contact with children. A spokesperson for the estate could not be reached for comment at press time to confirm future plans.
One of the biggest deals was a $250 million pact with Sony Music Entertainment to release 10 new products encompassing CDs, DVDs and video games through 2017. The first of those albums, a still-untitled collection of unreleased songs, is due out at the end of this year. A repackaging of the singer's 1979 solo debut, Off the Wall — which was reissued with bonus tracks in 2001 — is expected in 2011 with more outtakes and remixes.
Jackson had been working for years on a follow-up to the poorly received 2001 album Invincible, recording tracks with Lenny Kravitz, Akon and Will.I.Am, among others, some of which have leaked in unfinished demo form. But it's unknown if those songs will be packaged as the album Jackson was working on at the time of his death or if they will be sprinkled in among the future releases. His former label boss, Tommy Mottola, said soon after Jackson's death that there were "dozens" of unreleased tracks that could see the light of day at some point. Reports surfaced this week that a collector discovered more than 200 unreleased Jackson 5 tracks in a warehouse.
The "This Is It" documentary of rehearsals for the 50-date London comeback shows has already generated $300 million at the global box office and millions more on DVD. But concert promoter AEG Live said at the time of Jackson's death, it had shot more than 100 hours of high-definition footage, meaning further repackaging of that material could be coming in the future.
A video game from Ubisoft that will allow fans to re-create Jackson's signature dance moves is due by the end of the year, and two new Cirque du Soleil shows employing Jackson's music are slated to launch by 2012. The first show will be one of the Canadian troupe's traditional traveling extravaganzas hitting the road in 2011, while the other will be anchored in Las Vegas and is expected to open in 2012.
CNBC said the future of Jackson's onetime adult playland, the 2,600-acre Neverland Ranch in Santa Barbara County, California, is still up in the air. The site is currently owned by Colony Capital, but it could be sold or moved to Las Vegas to create a tourist destination.
Also up in the air is an auction of Jackson's personal effects from Neverland, which he had arranged before his death as a way to raise money to pay off his debts. Plans for the 2009 auction were scrapped at the last minute after the thousands of items had already been put on display by Julien's Auction House in Los Angeles.
MTV will be remembering the life and music of Michael Jackson all weekend. Don't miss the one-hour special "Michael Jackson's Influence on Music," airing tonight at 6:30 p.m. on MTV.

Ke$ha Dons Fur Coat, Poses On Motorcycle For 'Take It Off' Video

Pop star vamps it up for her latest clip from Animal.By Jocelyn Vena

Ke$ha on the set of her music video "Take It Off"

She angered fictional parents in her "Tik Tok" video, pranced around with the boys of 3OH!3 in her "Blah Blah Blah" clip and frolicked with a bearded boyfriend in an animated desert for her "Your Love Is My Drug" video. It might seem like Ke$ha had already done it all, but she ups the ante again in her latest clip.
In photos from the singer's "Take It Off" video set, she's seen wearing really, really short shorts, a white fur coat and even rocking super-high platforms while posing on a motorcycle. And Ke$ha even returns to the desert, joined by a number of dancers in the sand.
For the video, it looks like Ke$ha ditched her signature waves for straightened locks, a look that is more polished than we're used to seeing from the party-girl pop star. But, of course, Ke$ha is keeping it dirrrty by including some face paint and covering herself in the aforementioned sand.
"Take It Off" is the latest single from Ke$ha's highly infectious Animal debut, released earlier this year. In the past, Ke$ha has said that the album is a perfect representation of who she was as a person while she was recording it with super-producers Max Martin and Dr. Luke.
"I'm excited about it, because it kind of accurately documents my life over the past four years," explained Ke$ha, who is currently on the road with Rihanna. "And I think any girl, and hopefully guys too, can relate to the record. I talk about pretty much anything — you name it. ... I think that throughout the album, what I'm really proud of — I think every song you can tell it's me. It's all really honest — almost to a fault — and really genuine."
What do you think of the latest looks from Ke$ha's new video? Tell us in the comments!
